Membership Requirements

To be eligible for membership, a law student must be of good moral character, in good academic standing at an accredited law school in which a Student Inn is located and not be a member of another legal fraternity.  First year students are ineligible for membership until they have completed at least eight weeks of their first semester.  At many law schools, Phi Delta Phi is viewed as an honorary organization requiring a more rigid standard of scholarship for eligibility.  At those law schools, first year, first semester students are ineligible for membership, although they may pledge the Fraternity.  Phi Delta Phi is unique in this respect.

Each new member pays a one-time initiation fee of $75 U.S., with due consideration for international exchange rates.  Upon completion of the report of initiation (Form F) and administration of the Oath, the initiate becomes a Phi Delta Phi for life.

Most, if not all, of the Student Inns are dependent upon “local dues” to finance their activities.  These dues are established by each individual Inn, depending upon its needs.  Although alumni dues are strictly voluntary upon graduation, they provide approximately fifty percent of the income comprising the yearly General Operating Fund of the Fraternity.

Membership Benefits

Membership in Phi Delta Phi offers many benefits! As a member of the oldest and most prestigious professional fraternity on earth, our initiates join the ranks of Presidents and Supreme Court Justices, political figures and legal giants in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Eastern Europe. No other legal fraternity can offer the full range of benefits that come with membership in Phi Delta Phi.

Since Phi Delta Phi is the oldest and most international of legal fraternities, the network of movers and shakers that our members have access to is unrivaled.

PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Officers of the Fraternity and the Headquarters' staff stand ready to counsel Student and Barrister Members of Phi Delta Phi concerning job placement and opportunities.

SOCIAL AND PROFESSIONAL BENEFITS

As a Member of an Inn of Phi Delta Phi, there will be opportunities to participate in social -- as well as professional -- activities and functions.

In some law schools, social activities are weighted equally with professional activities. At other law schools, the thrust of an Inn's programs remains entirely professional and scholastic.

Friendships cultivated in law school continue after graduation. Phi Delta Phi's maintain contact on a social level as well as a professional level through Barrister Inns, Bar Associations and other professional organizations.

PUBLICATIONS

Participating members of Phi Delta Phi receive the HEADNOTER, the Fraternity's occasional newsletter. Members are also listed in the Fraternity Directory which is updated periodically.
